Liebe Freunde, Unterstützer und Besucher unseres DMM,
seit August 2014 gibt es das Dresdner Maple Meeting für alle Kanada-Fans. Egal, ob man nur mal hereinschneien möchte oder ob man sich einen Hauch kanadischer Kultur um die Nase wehen lassen will, jeder ist willkommen, der ein Herz für die Besonderheiten der kanadischen Lebensweise hat und des Englischen mächtig ist, denn dies ist unsere Umgangssprache.
Wie ist diese Idee entstanden? Als Übersetzerin und Fremdsprachendozentin arbeite ich in einem internationalen Umfeld, in dem mir auffiel, dass gerade KanadierInnen, die des Deutschen kaum mächtig sind, wenig integriert sind. Das wollte ich ändern.
Warum Kanada? Weil ich in diesem Land zwei Jahre gelebt habe und insbesondere in der Provinz Québec, genauer gesagt in Montreal, eine wunderbare Zeit in einem gelungenen multikulturellen Umfeld verbringen durfte. Nie habe ich diese Zeit vergessen: Französisches Savoir-Vivre im Tandem mit angelsächsischer Höflichkeit eingebettet in ein europäisches Flair einer kanadischen Großstadt. Diese Menschen wieder in meiner Wahlheimat Sachsen an einem Tisch zu vereinen, das ist mein Ziel, ebenso eine Plattform für kulturelle, wirtschaftliche und gesellschaftliche Impulse zu schaffen, um neue Synergien zur Entfaltung zu bringen.
Wir treffen uns einmal im Quartal, den vier Jahreszeiten folgend, also im Frühjahr, im Sommer, im Herbst und im Winter. Unser Treffpunkt ist i. d. R. zentral in der Nähe der Dresdner Frauenkirche gelegen. Der genaue Ort wird rechtzeitig bekanntgegeben.
Der nächste DMM findet am 22. September statt. Mehr Details später. Wir freuen uns über jeden interessierten und weltoffenen Besucher.

In August 2014, the Dresden Maple Meeting was founded for all Canada-fans. Anyone interested in this wonderful and exciting country may join us. All you need to speak is a little bit of English J.
Why a Dresden Maple Meeting? As a sworn translator and a language tutor, I took the initiative to found this table as I realized that there were many Canadians in the Dresden area who had no platform for their views and needs.
Why Canada? Because in accordance with my personal experiences, this country offers a unique mix of cultures blending very well with European values and traditions. In Canada, you will find French “savoir vivre” going hand in hand with English kindness and humour all two of them embedded in a unique wildlife. I thought it would just be a great idea to bring Canadians from all Provinces together with Saxons and anyone interested in this exciting country in order to promote the development of cultural, economic and social synergies.
When do we meet? We come together four times a year following our seasons. Thus, we have a meeting in March, June, September and November. Our meeting point is right in the city center of Dresden opposite of the famous Dresden Frauenkirche.
Anyone interested in Canadian culture is welcome, no matter where you are from. All you need is open-mindedness to embrace different and unique life-styles. The next DMM will take place September 22, 2016. More details to follow.
